I want to get a tongue piercing. Advice?

Or is it a bad idea. I think they look great and so do a lot of my friends but they say not to get one because it ruins your teeth. Is this true? Does it hurt? Also, when I eventually want to take it out, doesthe hole close up?I want to get a tongue piercing. Advice?
i've never heard you can ruin your teeth but firstly you get a stainless steel bar, that may ruin you your teeth, but it didn't mine so....

You have to take great care of your tongue piercing. i wanted one also but i found out all this risky stuff and its too high maintenance for me.





It can ruin your teeth but thats a bit unlikely. Make sure if you get it, that you wash it at least for 30 seconds everytime after a meal so no bacteria gets to your piercing and infects you. Also when you go to the piercing man/woman (lol) make sure they dont use a piercing gun because who know's if the stuff they're using is steralised or not. and there are a few cases of people with tongue rings getting an STD.. read more into that in google. you dont wanna be risky with this. I think the hole closes up within a couple of hours of you taking it off, or could be a couple of days but im not too sure. And yes, tongue piercings DO hurt. but dont worry, they hurt for a couple of minutes. then you dont even remember the pain after the minutes are over.

It will chip your teeth, yes. It will happen at least once in your life if you get it pierced and keep the piercing in. It does not matter if you have a plastic bead or a metal bead in-- it is bound to happen. (A dentist will tell you this.) No, it doesn't hurt. It will just start hurting when the swelling starts and you won't be able to talk right nor eat what you normally like to eat for a day or so (or longer). You are going to have to stick to soup, grits, cereal, mashed potatoes, anything soft and just solids. You will slur and your speech will sound all funny. (I forgot how long this lasted-- maybe a day to 2 days... perhaps 3, don't know, don't remember-- it's been so long.) I have had mine out for years. The hole is still opened. Sometimes it does close up and I have to puncture the hole to get the barbell back in.

I used to wear a metal ball but now I wear plastic and they hardly damage your teeth at all, plus there's so many more colours and patterns if you wear plastic.


The hole should eventually close up if you leave it long enough.


It does hurt and takes about a week for the swelling to go down. It feels like you have a very bad sore throat. I say go for it whilst you're still feeling brave!
it is not true that they ruin your teeth. i've had my tongue pierced for 4 years now and my teeth are fine. it is however, true that metal isn't good in your mouth. i have the flexible plastic tongue rings and they are the best and your dentist will be happy with them as well. once you've had it for a while your whole won't close but that first 6 months to a year it's better not to take it out. it doesn't hurt getting it but it is a little sore afterwards. just eat before you get it and suck on ice. you'll be fine. make sure it's something that YOU want not because everyone has one.
They aren't bad if you can handle it, care for it and keep it clean.





The advice I can give is if and when you get it done, buy a big bottle of listerine and bring a strong stomach. They swell horribly the first few days making speech and closing mouth painful. You have to constantly swish listerine to bring down swelling and kill bacteria to prevent infection.

they do chip ur teeth coz its metal in ur mouth and they rub against ur teeth, so they do damage them, but not ALL the time. the hole will close up eventually, depending how long u keep it in there for.. and it hurts!
WELL MINES CHIPPED A BIT OF MY BOTTOM TEETH BUT CANT BEARLY TELL MY AFVICE TO YOU IS DO NOT PUT THE METAL BALL AT THE BOTTOM PUT A PLATIC ONE HELPS SOOO MUCH.





AND NO IT DOEST HER WHEN THE NEEDLE GOES IN LIKE 5 TO 10 SECONDS LATER IT WILL HERT ALOT BECAUSE IT GETS SWOLLEN THE NEEDLE IS THE LEAT OF YOUR WORRIED TRUST ME.





AND YES THE HOEL DOES CLOSE WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE TAKING IT OUT

Don't do ittttt


I know a girl who had it done, she couldn't eat for 2 weeks because it was so painful, and she got an infection in it. Don't do it :( its horrible, its tacky, and it could make you ill :(
Please Don't do it. All your interest will be finished when you suffer a lot
