I'm not a serious rider, but I do like to get out on the road. Im having trouble getting motivated. Any advice

Riding with a group is always the best motivation. You build friendships and help push each other.

Find a local touring organisation that holds weekly rides. Try:

Also, you could try commuting. If you live too far from work, find a place about ten miles from work where you can leave your car, then ride the rest of the way in. Keep a supply kit at work with soap, washcloth, and deodorant. If they don't have a shower, just 'wipe down' in the bathroom. Trust me when I tell you no one will know the difference.I'm not a serious rider, but I do like to get out on the road. Im having trouble getting motivated. Any advice
go to your local bike shop and see if they have rides often shops have a Saturday ride... if so, then do a few and see if you like them... you'll meet people who share a common interest and then the potential for being motivated is endlessI'm not a serious rider, but I do like to get out on the road. I'm the same way, but I always find that it helps to ride with friends!
I like to set up errands for myself on weekends that involve cycling in a big loop --library, post office, etc. before I know it, I've been out on the bike for a couple hours.

You can also look at maps and set goals (riding to local parks and places like that).
Tell yourself I will go out for a 20 minute fun ride. Sometimes getting motivated is hard because riding your bike can be alot of effort. After 20 minutes come back in and basically you had a nice ride. But chances are if you like biking like I do you will be out alot longer. Either way you got on your bike.
I recently started mountain biking again after a 5-year hiatus. I had not done much of any type of exercise in that time. I was also smoking, not sleeping well and generally in bad shape. When I started riding again I immediately noticed a difference in my stamina, and in my overall demeanor, and riding daily for a few weeks allowed me to quit smoking.

So the way I look at it is this: I look forward to feeling my muscles burn with fatigue, feeling my neck ache in a cold sweat, and breathing so hard I think my lungs will burst, because I know I'm doing something excellent for myself. And there's always the post-riding shower and relaxation to look forward to. =)
find some good o' cyclists buddy to ride w ya!
Ride at a place with a lot of other riders, and don't let any girls pass you.
Get a riding buddy. It's cool to have that ';competition'; thing going. It keeps both people pushing each other. Another way, which, is a little harder, JUST DO IT, like Nike. The more you ride the more you'll want to get out and ride. If I go three days without riding, I go crazy. It truly is an addiction for me.
When Cortez arrived at the New World he burned all of his ships. This way, his men were well motivated.

Have someone drive you and your bike out 15 or 20 miles, drop you off, and drive away. That'll get you moving.
Get a tandem..its alot of fun
