Any advice for someone getting acquainted with wine?

I used to drink awful wine, but have developed a taste for really cheap wine from Grocery Outlet (great deals). I like Chardonnay and Cabernet, and don't really know what else is out there. Thanks in advanceAny advice for someone getting acquainted with wine?
Depending on where you live wine tasting is THE best way to learn about wine. It's not as costly as you might think. If you're not in wine country, a lot of restaurants have wine tastings as well. You'll learn a lot, drink great wine, and meet people that are into wine also.Any advice for someone getting acquainted with wine?
The best way to learn about wine is to start by finding cheap wines that you like. California wines tend to cost more if you want a good one. Aussie wines are some of the best for the money. You can also find inexpensive French wines. The quality, in my opinion, of a cheap French, Australian, Spanish wine will be far superior to a California wine dollar for dollar. Also, california wines have more human intervention that

takes awy from the grape varietals. (they take a cab grape and age it in oak too ling so it tastes like vanilla, for example) some people like this sort of thing, but even the cheapest CA wines are produced this way.

Anyway, figure out what kind of wines you like by trying a few from these countries. Then work your way up to the more expensive wines.

I can recommend a few labels to start with.

Rosemount Shiraz- Aus

Penfolds Shiraz- Aus

E Guigal Cotes du Rhone- France

Sangre de Toro- Spain

There are 4 to start. the penfolds and Eguigal are the most expensive at just over $20 a bottle. The others are 8 to 12 a bottle.

Personally I prefer white extra dry sparkling wine as it is not too sweet and my favorite is not the most expensive you can't always go by price just try a few new ones and see what suits your tastes. Since you are leaning towards white wines Pinot Grigio is a nice one.

The Low Butter just reminded me Olive Garden offers free samples when you have dinner there.
